What causes teeth staining?

It is a well-known fact that teeth are easily stained by your typical daily beverage intakes whether it is your morning coffee, can of Coke, or a glass of red wine. Other culprits that contribute to staining of your teeth include tobacco use, tea (particularly black tea), berries that are rich in color, and many more.

ZOOM! Whitening

Saban Family Dental is proudly fully-equipped with Zoom Whitening technology. In a single chair-side whitening procedure, you will see a noticeable difference in the color of your teeth. Zoom whitening gives you an immediate result, so you will walk out of the office with pearly whites that give you a brighter smile! With advanced LED light technology, we are confident in delivering our patients the brightest smile ever.

How does it work?

A relatively high but safe dosage of hydrogen peroxide, as opposed to the commonly found 3% over-the-counter hydrogen peroxide product, is used as the main active ingredient during the whitening procedure. This professional grade hydrogen peroxide is activated alongside with Zoom LED light, which helps hydrogen peroxide to penetrate into enamel of the teeth. The chemical reaction that takes place subsequently essentially “breaks” the stain from the inner layer of enamel.

With the help of LED light technology, this process is not only accelerated but can also penetrate deeper to target the most stubborn stains that cannot be removed with over-the-counter whitening products.

Is the procedure painful?

Post procedure sensitivity is not uncommon. Depending on the individual, some may experience sensitivity to a certain extent after the whitening procedure while others may not experience sensitivity at all. To be safe, it is advisable to use desensitizing toothpaste containing fluoride such as Sensodyne or Colgate Pro-Relief.

How long does it take?

To provide highest quality care, your appointment will be booked for 1 hour and 30 minutes. First, impressions of the teeth are taken before the procedure. These impressions are required to fabricate supplementary customized whitening trays for you to take home.

To prepare for the whitening procedure, your lips and gums will be completely covered and protected from active ingredients inside the whitening gel. Whitening gel will then be applied to targeted teeth, which will be activated by ZOOM whitening LED light.

Not including preparation time, whitening procedure alone will be 45 minutes.

After teeth whitening care?

It is advised not to consume food and drinks that are rich in deep colour such as coffee, red wine, and berries. Tobacco use is not recommended for about 2-3 days post procedure.

Upon completion of whitening procedure, you will be given a set of customized whitening trays to take home along with a whitening syringe. This is to be used for a few hours during the day or overnight to maintain your new pearly whites!

If you are experiencing sensitivity, you can always incorporate desensitizing toothpaste such as Sensodyne or Colgate Pro-Relief. Be sure to continue using for at least two weeks to notice results.
